Community Code

The imprfct life® community is a global community focused on self-development, support and solidarity. We’ve created this Community Code to help guide all imprfct life® members in how to come together for growth, discussion, and debate. As members of imprfct life® we are committed to help each other learn, grow, and feel supported.

In short...

The imprfct life® Community Code applies to all imprfct life® forums, events and online spaces.  If you’re unsure whether the space or the behavior is in scope for this Community Code, we encourage you to correspond with the imprfct life® by filling out the form here.

imprfct life® provides a safe and supportive experience for everyone, regardless of age, socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, nationality, citizenship, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, education, work status, physical appearance or body size, neurodiversity, or religion / belief system.

imprfct life® has community guidelines that align to our values and ensure that imprfct life® is a safe and welcoming space for the community to come together to learn, invest in themselves, to give and get support, find issues and opportunities to rally around, and create a voice for the broader global women / girls community.

The consequences of inappropriate behavior will be dealt with according to its gravity;  from being expelled from the community to being reported to the appropriate authorities.  You consent to our processing of personal data as described in the imprfct life® Terms and Conditions.

Scope

The imprfct life® Community Code applies to any imprfct life® online forum. This includes imprfct life® spaces like any social media platform, community platforms, mailing lists, web sites, blogs and comment sections within a platform. The imprfct life® Community Code may also apply to private correspondence between imprfct life® community members, if the communication includes bullying, stalking, harassment, discrimination, threats of violence, or other behavior that impacts the physical safety or mental health of imprfct life® community members.

The imprfct life® Community Code applies to all imprfct life® events. This includes imprfct life® events such as meetups, retreats, training sessions, workshops, conferences, and unofficial imprfct life® events. The Community Code applies at all our event venues and social events. All event attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers, including the event organizing team, are required to follow the Community Code. Organizers are expected to enforce the imprfct life® Community Code throughout the event.

We hope all participants in imprfct life® online and event spaces will help us to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

Community Guidelines

We have a few community guidelines that we ask people to adhere.  Being explicit about our community norms will ensure that the imprfct life® community continues to be an excellent space in which to communicate, collaborate, and contribute.  When the guidelines are unclear, we expect the spirit of the guidelines to be followed.

We all live the imprfct life® Values.

Because we all deserve to feel safe, and no one likes to be bullied.
Do:
  • Review and understand the imprfct life ® Values.
  • Take responsibility as a community member for moderating, flagging, and reporting content and behavior that does not comply with our values and Community Code.
Don’t:
  • Use language and tones that belittles others and creates an environment that stifles learning is not productive and not welcome.
  • Participate in illegal activity or a hate crime actions.  This is prohibited and will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

We are a global community with diversity of people and lived experiences.

Open minds and open hearts will allow us all to expand our world view and understanding.
Do:
  • Lean into the experience, own individual comments and behavior, listen, and learn.  Creating an inclusive culture takes time, energy, and resources.
  • Create space for marginalized groups’ experiences to be heard and acknowledged without judgement or debate.
  • Learn how we can all be better humans.  Find a friend or group that you can discuss your emotions and feelings with to continue your growth.
Don’t:
  • Contribute to hatred, bigotry, racism, bullying, or otherwise disrespectful and hateful commentary. This behavior is prohibited and comments will be removed as will those that participate in such actions.
  • Place the burden of education on marginalized groups.  We take ownership of our own learning curve and explore resources and channels that provide us information and guidance.

Learning is core to our community.

We’re all responsible for creating a safe learning environment.
Do:
  • Engage with an open mind and empathy.
  • Debate topics without engaging in personal attacks.  We don’t always need to agree and when we don’t, we are respectful and seek to understand other’s perspectives.
  • Frame feedback and advice in a way that opens the door for growth and discovery vs. shutting people down and pushing them away.
  • Respect others’ journeys, leading with empathy and support.
Don’t:
  • Snipe, belittle, or put others down.  Sassiness and scrappy conversation is welcome but save the stingers for another space.
  • Assume that everyone is talking from the same knowledge, skills, abilities, background, or context.  Seek to understand so we can all learn together.

We are all works in progress, and we all have something to learn.

Know-it-all’s need not apply.  Because if you know it all, that’s what you need to work on.
Do:
  • Own your individual imperfections and understand that each of us has an opportunity for growth.
  • Exercise honesty to ourselves and others.
  • Respect that we all grow and learn in our own way and at our own pace – one journey is not like another – forward motion with intention and purpose is the mission.
Don’t:
  • Shy away from the tough conversations; and we know when to find some levity and laugh together.
  • Monopolize conversations so that others have room to join in and grow.

We are committed to truth and facts.

Because “alternative facts” are often not facts.
Do:
  • Check your sources and seek out information from multiple angles that have been substantiated or backed.
  • Give credit where and when it’s due.
  • Provide clarity about what is opinion and what is fact.
Don’t:
  • Assume that the opinions of other members are grounded in facts.  Be a wise consumer and do your own research and fact checking.

Members keep imprfct life® a solicitation and direct marketing free zone.

Don’t we get enough of that everywhere else?
Do:
  • Share recommendations and referrals – they are welcome as part of a dialogue or a direct request.
  • Post opportunities in dedicated spaces in the community where indicated.
  • Respect our vigorous selection criterion we use when determining businesses and organizations that we will partner with and provide advertising space.  You are welcome to connect with us to explore that option.
Don’t:
  • Share other’s information without permission.  Using or distributing the imprfct life® community list is strictly prohibited and will result in your removal from the community.

We give and we take.

Because everyone needs a little help sometimes.
Do:
  • Lean on each other when we need to and in return, we are there for others in their time of need.
  • Share what we have to teach, and we explore opportunities to learn and grow from others.
Don’t:
  • Mock others for their advice and support requests.  Remember, we’ve all learned what we now know one life experience at a time.
  • Shy away from reaching out to the community for support – no matter how hard it might be for you.
